Taking lower unit off .. I have taken the trim tab/water intake off to reveal one of the nuts holding it on . So there are 4 nuts holding it on ..
Is there anything I should know before trying to drop the unit . Remove the shift rod correct ? There is a spring around it right before it goes into the housing . Do I remove that spring ?
Just trying to know what to expect before I drop it .. I ‘d like to be able to put back on easily at some point ..LOL!January 16, 2020 at 9:21 am #192192put it in forward just me. then drop it .
January 17, 2020 at 7:42 pm #192341January 17, 2020 at 11:14 pm #192361that is usually a frozen shift shaft coupling. I use wedges on both sides of the shaft. MOST TIMES it comes apart.
January 18, 2020 at 7:46 am #192367Is the ss coupling located in the drive shaft housing or the the gear shaft housing ? No way to squirt some oil on it is there …
There is a screw in the DS housing located starboard side in the front . A grease plug ? Reverse lock hole maybe ? Just wondering if it could be greased up from there …January 18, 2020 at 8:30 am #192368it is about 2-3 in up in the ds housing. look down thru the opening. yes the plug is for grease to the reverse lock cams.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Long live American manufacturing!
