The starter rope pulled out from behind the rivet after the second pull, so I added the stainless steel hog ring and that’s working great. This will definitely be my “go to procedure” the next time that I need the replace the starter rope.

I ran the motor for a while yesterday and I’m still not happy with the way it is running. I can’t seem to be able the get the idle and high speed adjustment right. The RPM’s seem to drop every few seconds and the motor dies when I try to move the speed control lever beyond the Start position. However, the motor is running a lot smoother than before a cleaned up the carburetor.
