How do you set the air gap between coil heel and flywheel magnet when installing new coil on a Martin 45?

I don’t know the particulars of that specific motor however what I have done is to apply two layers of paper masking tape to the coil heals , install the flywheel and rotate…. keep moving the heals out until you see a little scrape mark… they maybe go to a single layer of tape if you choose.

Joe, thank you for your reply. I don’t know why I’d forgotten  that as I’ve used that method before maybe 40 years ago. Tom
