May 24, 2018 at 1:37 am #76630Putting back together and I have a o ring missing from upper shaft where it connects to block. How pertinent is it to have?
May 24, 2018 at 3:26 am #76636It won’t hurt the driveshaft, it’s stainless steel. HOWEVER, the crankshaft is not and it will rust just looking at it. The "O" ring is supposed to stop that, keeping the water out and the coat of grease in. If it fails, the rust will make it very hard to remove the shaft. Then as the splines rust away, the motor no longer propels the boat. . . 😮
May 24, 2018 at 9:43 am #76642You can probably find a replacement at a well-stocked hardware store.
Long live American manufacturing!
May 24, 2018 at 12:00 pm #76646I have some orings that will fit. I am just not sure if I need a special one to withstand the heat?
May 25, 2018 at 9:32 am #76690Wow, looks really good!
I have never noticed drive shaft O-rings to be anything special…They just seem to be the black, Buna-N material.
Long live American manufacturing!
May 25, 2018 at 11:29 am #76692I had some cheapo ones from harbor frieght and put one on there. I’ll find out after a few runs if it melts off haha.
The paint is body work isn’t a ten but that is fine with me. It is going to be put back to work.
