      Hi there

Last sunday I got myself two new Mercs for my collection. Both are blue stripe 200 20hp models. Upon looking a them, one looks 1974-ish and the other one 1978-ish.
I’ve tried to look up some info on them but I can’t find anything based on the serial numbers!

      Serial numbers are

      9035990

      9260323

According to some online sources, those serial numbers don’t even exist?
Anyone here have some better sources for serial numbers?

Warranty motors? Or numbers a little off? Not exactly sure.

Just a hunch on my part, but try searching Mercury outboards produced in Belgium.

I don’t know the accuracy of this page, but this is what Belgium produced Mercury search brought up for me:

Wow, thanks for the quick replies!

The older one is actually a 1974, just as I suspected. Haven’t found a match for the newer one yet but I’ll keep digging

I think that those are Canada production motors. I don’t have a list for Canada production, but that is my guess.

Canadian motors were 7-million series. I believe 9-million series were European series.

200 73-77 Bel 9016254 thru 9157229 200 78-81 Bel 9157230 Due to the dollar being worth more over seas some dealers were buying European engines and having them shipped back for far less than mercury was selling them in the states. because some of mercurys biggest dealers were doing it the sales department was reluctant to say anything I think the feds got involved in the end and it was stopped
