      SeaKing

I have a Montgomery Ward’s Sea King 3hp engine and I would like to know the year it was made. it was made by Clinton Engines.

A buddy of mine picked it up off the side of the road some 30 years ago. It sat in his barn for a couple years, and then he gave it to me when I bought my first boat, a 14 foot aluminum. I replaced the fuel line, and it fired right up. It has been stored for at least 15 years, but I was able to clean up the fuel system and again, she fired right up. I’ve always been curious how old it is, but I would guess mid-1960’s?

Model number appears to be J3001196A and the serial number is 332407, it also has a type number: XTV 27004 A

27004 doesn’t show up on the list, but 27002 through 27007 all come up as 1970 and/or 1971.

              My hardly-ever-wrong motor bible says the J300 was  a one-year wonder.  1971

                1. My hardly-ever-wrong motor bible says the J300 was  a one-year wonder.  1971

What I could find on the pathetic web generally led me to the 70’s, but that angular sheet metal cowl doesn’t show up anywhere. In 1971 I was in the 7th grade.

Any idea what a 1971 Sea King 3hp might be worth in running condition?
