Another Motor found its way to the back of my truck.

Looks to be in good shape and all original.

First Elto that I’ve popped the hood on.

Mag plate & flywheel are in great shape, was it common to finish these in black or was this done afterwards?

Carb & poppet valve are clean and free as can be.

Feeling good about this one. I’ll be tank testing real soon.

I’m thinking “factory” on the black coating…… seen several like that…..
but never one so “clean” and in that nice of shape. Have fun!

I believe that the “black” is not just the usual paint but rather a bitumen (tar) based product intended for corrosion protection and damp proofing.  I suspect that if you warm it up a bit you will find that it softens.

If you don’t have spark after cleaning the contacts
take the points apart and clean the individual parts.
Those sparkplug boots look to be after market from
the time. Possibility Bakelite. I’d be surprised if
you could find another pair of them.

Agree with your assessment Tubbs the boots look in too good of shape to be original.

Correct again they are Bakelite or a durn good imitation.

The rubber plug collars do look original as well as the tiller grip.

Carb components look good. I’ll coat the float while I have it apart.

Motor doesn’t appear to have seen much lake time.

                  Very light coating, good idea.

                    Handitwin tank test results.

Starts easily now, still need to work on the slow idle, asking for input.

Still using the older condenser, plugs & plug wires & boots.

Seem to be a bit smokey, mixed 16/1 would 24 / 1 be safe?

Ran out of gas at the end of video.

Thanks go out to everyone for their input and advice.

                    T..
