Any thoughts on these three D printed prop nuts? The prop nuts for these small OMC motors are getting hard to find. When you do find one they are bucobucks! My son made these on his three D printer. I drilled a hole through the thing for a cotter pin, that should hold it on. Gonna try it!

Vintage outboard.com has them for $13.95 not to badly priced I guess but shipping adds up and shipping to Canada means exchange rate etc… making it 30-40$

common inexpensive automotive tire valves make perfect bumpers . Simply cut to size by removing the brass section.
They come in 2 sizes if I recall… just select the proper size

Hi Dale, I can’t tell if the Cotter pin is offset to ride in the snap groove of the prop shaft or if it is centered and required a hole to be drilled. I’m assuming it is off-centered so the Cotter pin is innthe groove. That’s not a bad idea. Mine are printed out of TPU and snap on like the originals. The do have a flat on the trailing end, though, allowing me to keep the detail of the snap feature without filling that cavity woth supports to print them.

February 20, 2026 at 3:56 pm #304896Hi Ben good to hear from you. I just used the cotter pin hole that is in the propeller shaft. The kid copied the original and I measured and drilled a hole to match. The drill wanted to run a little crooked so I just made the hole a little bigger. All the thing has to do is hold the shear pin in place. I think it will work! I should have checked with you first but, my son was up for an adventure so off we went. I like to check the prop shaft for fishing line. The rubber nuts are getting old and hard and not snapping on like they should.

February 20, 2026 at 6:38 pm #304908how about tape on the shear pin in case the cap ever came off so you don’t lose the ipn and prop. ?
February 20, 2026 at 7:14 pm #304909Yes, the snap caps are kind of a pain. The TPU ones that I am printing work OK. A Cotter pin would have been a better design from the start IMO. So, you drilled a hole in the prop shaft for the Cotter pin from the new cap to fit through?
