Have searched for this in various ways on this forum but found very little info. Found this 1967 Johnson JHF22C 3 hp folding motor in younger son’s barn. Trying to get background info on it, such as years they were made, how many produced per year, rarity, etc. This one turns over and has compression but didn’t have gauge with me, so don’t know how much per cyl. Will appreciate any info. TIA

You must be very careful not to damage the tip of the gearcase or the unit will not lock in the folded position. Yours looks to be a 1967 Johnson with the 90 degree higher thrust gearcase. The biggest concern is the condition of the fuel tank, make sure it isn’t rusted or fouled inside. Going through the ignition, fuel systems, impeller replacement is usually all they need to become reliable daily runners. These engines don’t have much compression, you will only see about 70PSI, which is normal.
I don’t know what other questions you have….

It looks to been out of service for a long time. If it still has its original its coils the covering will have failed and be falling apart. New coils are still being manufactured. Most come from China. CDI Electronics is US company that claim they make them here. They are expensive compared to the Chinese coils. You can find them on eBay if you search for – CID Electronics 183 4477. Impellers are still being manufactured as well.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Can you explain this issue? Which “tip” and how does that affect the folding action?
