Adding electric start and need part # of starter bracket for an FD-12, 18 hp.

Is this bracket common to other engines?

Diagrams @ MarineEngine do not show the mounting brackets as an item.

I have since found what I needed elsewhere.

          Thanks

              Jacques,

You are correct it does show the bracket and the correct one with the boss for cowling bumber.
Aftermarket brackets do not have that boss/tab.

Like to see a pic of the retrofit to add the bumper tab if anyone has done this?

My mind was thinking ring gear “304736” and I typed starter baracket, I have since found both.

There is some good information out there on adding e-start.

I met a gut at Tomahawk last year who does the wiring harness with plug in connectors, but I’ve misplaced his information.

              Thanks

              T..

Well T, I guess I have an answer for your problem.  I have built three electric start kits for my 18hp Johnson’s.  It seems like the Evinrude brackets are more available than the Johnson.   56/57/58 Johnson use the same bracket for the starter.  Evinrude don’t have the knob for the hood.  The only brackets I could find were the rudes so I had to improvise. First thing I did was take my port side rewind bracket off and built a fixture.  Hopefully I can post a picture.   I found an Evinrude starter bracket.  Placed it in my home made fixture and cobbled up a peg for the hood.   I used a small piece of angle iron and a cut off bolt for the peg and some JB weld.  I took some fiddling but I managed to get it to work.  I put a metal screw in to hold the new bracket so the JB weld could setup good.  You might have to relocate the bolt holes that hold the starter to the bracket but that is another story.

The 1956’s used a different bolt pattern to mount the starter to the bracket itself, 6v vs 12v. So if you try to use a ’56 bracket, you will not be able to install a 12v starter to the bracket without modifications. I am working on a mod to allow the use 12v starter on a ’56 6v bracket…Someday I will get that project back in the que…lol
