Hello All,
I have a 1962 JW-17 3hp Johnson Seahorse outboard that my husband is trying to get running better. He has taken it apart and how broken one of the piston rings. We have tried to find a replacement and we are having a really hard time and we don’t want to junk the motor. Would anyone know where we should look or if its even possible to find a replacement. A place out of Vermont that we buy are parts does not have any and doesn’t think they are available.
Any help would be wonderful as we are heartbroken!Thank you.

Rings are $5.00 each plus 10% shipping.
Click on the online piston ring catalog.
January 31, 2019 at 10:43 am #165488If you use the $5 rings, be ready to file notches on the ends to clear the alignment pin on the piston as they will come with square ends. The size needed for standard rings is 1 9/16 X 3/32.

Dave can supply them at an extra cost.
In the past I have just removed the pins.
Removed the pins???? Wow, Tubs, that took guts to say that. I’ve never done it though, so have no first-hand experience with the consequences–or not.
January 31, 2019 at 7:59 pm #165601I’m sure I’ve seen some ported cylinder engines without pinned rings,
and wondered about it. Also on any engine when one assembles the
rings staggered, I often wonder how long they stay in that position. If you want stepped ends on the rings
Dave can supply them at an extra cost.
