Will a 1955 25hp Evinrude power head Fit on a 1953 Johnson 25hp lower unit? Will the cowl off of the Johnson fit the Evinrude power head?

        The 55 25hp powerhead is different than the 53 models, won’t fit…
Generally speaking, the J/E engine covers of those models won’t swap either…

The bolts line up, but the water routing is different . . . 🙂

Okay,How about a 1953 Evinrude powerhead on the 53 RD.The base gasket is the same,so the water passages must match. All the individual part numbers are the same,BUT the part numbers for the block and crankcase assemblies are different. Why?

The only differences between Johnson and Evinrude 25’s of the same years are the cowling and the parts to mount the cowlings. I don’t have the slightest idea why the cylinder & crankcase numbers would be different, but I’ll look into it & see what I can find. Stay tuned.

Update: Still don’t have all the answers because I don’t have a ’53 Evinrude parts book. But here’s what I did find.

                RD-14 & RD-15 used 375786 C&CC assy, superseded by 376457
                1954 Evinrude used 376236 C&CC, also superseded by 376457

Evinrude Quick reference guide says 376457 fits 1951 through 1954.

So 376457 seems to be the magic number. I still don’t know what prompted all the number changes.

The ’53 Evinrude also used 375786 for that assembly…
