So I bought this motor a few months ago and have been working on several issues to see if it will start. Compression check is approximately 70 psi both cylinders. I have rebuilt the carb and put new impeller in the lower unit. So I did have spark both cylinders but never could get it to start. So I removed magneto plate and tried to put a new set of BRP points on and re-assembled plate to the motor. Could never get points to open when cam top indicator hits the point cam foot. So I removed everything with the magneto plate still attached and re-installed points with no luck. So put the old points back and now I can set the gap to .020”. However, I still cannot get to start so I am thinking the spark may be too weak. I can only check with one of those clear Harbor Freight spark checkers. So is there some trick to get the new points to open? I tried adjusting the hold down plate and screw cam and no luck. Thx
