Trying not  to damage the old rubber “nose cone” that covers the prop cotter pin on this old Evinrude 7518.  It freely rotates but doesn’t unscrew.  So does it just pry off.?   Rubber is old and I’m trying not to destroy it while trying to remove it. TIA  !

Ya it just snaps on,  50/60 year old rubber just getting old.  They break easily, try some heat.  They are getting expensive and hard to find.

Use penetrating oil and a hair drier. Pry gently using two old dull screwdrivers and work around the cone to free the rubber from the contact with metal. Take your time.

Most of the time these prop cones can be saved, but some are just too degraded to be saved.

            Randy,

If the one your trying to remove doesn’t survive.

I just purchased 2 of these from vintageoutboard.com

            They fit my 1956 Evinrude 7.5 7520 & my 1957 7.5 7522 perfectly.

            hope this helps, Kent
