I remember hearing a mercury float can be used to replace the cork float in Gale 3HP carbs. Is Sierra 18-7208 the right one? What modifications need to be made?

Yeah, that’s the one. Pull & discard the spring. Drill the plastic insert 3/32″ all the way through. Now pull the insert out and save. Sand the dome off the top of the float (just the dome, no more). Put the plastic insert back in and mash it down so top is flush Now trim the plastic insert flush with the bottom of the float. Use the hairpin clip and screw from the old cork float.

No need to seal the raw top. It’s non-absorbent.
