Yeah, I tried to unscrew mine as well… it did not break and then Chris stepped in and got me down the correct path of enlightenment

Thanks Richard and Tubs, great info, I was scratching my head on that….

As Wayne said someone has had the knob out before on this flywheel. After cleaning I noticed that there are cracks. Fortunately this is from the incomplete parts motor. The other one has not been touched. I’m trying to salvage everything from the parts motor before I touch the model "c"

          Ah shoot, dreaded cracked flywheel.

I think I tried to unscrew mine for the first time for about half hour before I gave up !

I am wondering what year the rudder and steering bracket. The fitment of the taper is different.

I’m finding that the small hole flywheels
are the ones that are often cracked.
Their is a taper on the nut as well as the
crankshaft and even though it says
"Keep Nut Tight" it would seem if you
                  overdo it they can crack.

Didn’t know that there is different size taper fit. It’s interesting that they switched to that safety flywheel… I’m not sure how many knuckles that saved. 😉
