The thumb screw and associated lever are the idle speed set. Limits how far you can set it toward “slow”. The clicky thingy is a friction device to help keep the speed at whatever you want (prevents creeping).

          thanks

I had not noticed that the MQ’s year 65 version had no side idle adjustment on the tiller handle …all my previous 9.5 have the round idle setting on the tiller

          makes a lot of sense !! πŸ™‚

same goes for the clicker on the mag plate

I hope this one runs ok because I see sand all over the innards in the lower cowl section …

but….found no sand in the carb πŸ™‚

and engine turns over smoothly by hand no crunching noises or vibrations no rust in cyl ‘s

I have yet to check compression… maybe tomorrow

if ok I’ll chug along and try to restore this freebie MQ and flush out all the sand crap (winter project)

65PSI readings don’t surprise me for this engine…Will probably be just fine…You might want to pull the head and have a look before spending too much time/money doing other things…Give it the 50cent hone job and the readings will probably come up to about 80PSI

I am confident as all my other 9.5 were in that range (65-70) I will do the electricals ( I have all the parts anyway and could strip them back out if things don’t work out..

never done honing.. i’ll have to try it on this one if it is to sluggish

my spare kicker worked out fine at 65
