Hey, speaking of West Bend Sharks…..my 18 hp has a chomp out of the anti-cavitation plate. My 16hp parts motor has a very similar situation. Is this a common condition with these motors? Anybody got an 18 parts motor with an intact lower leg. Besides that, it runs great. Even the dash light works so I can read my lake chart and find my way home. Okay, full disclosure, I haven’t really had it out at night, but it works in the barn!

I had a twelve and an eighteen and neither was broken like that!

          David,

If you know a decent welder, he can fix that in no time.

Make the cut straight, tack on some matching material, then cut the arc.

I haven’t done a spot that large, but for chips that is the technique I use. Cut out a square, cut out a piece to match, weld in, then polish out weld and paint.

I’d say it was a "great white" shark.

            Prepare to be boarded!

              David,

I noticed the material is a bit thinner than the Johnson/Evinrudes of similar vintage. Like Chris suggested, a good welder could probably make that as good as new. I will keep my eye out for any WB parts motors though.

I can’t wait to play with the Night Light on mine!

Being a West Bend "Shark" I would leave it, plus it looks cool. Just this of the fun stories that could be made up at the local boat ramp! " Your gonna need a bigger boat"

The dash lights are the coolest feature on the motors!
