Hi All, I’m working on a 1973 4HP yacht twin. The fuel pump has number changes as follows: 0381815 to 0386833 to 0388684 to the tune of $167.57. When did they start making them out of gold? Anyhow, I would like to rebuild it but they don’t list a kit for it. Does anyone know if one of the other kits may work for this one? Don’t want to take a road trip to China if I don’t have to. Thanks , Matt.
July 31, 2026 at 4:55 pm #325518some have complaints about China stuff.. I use them all the time or did anyway. I refurbished many small OBs
check Amazon not a big loss if not satistified or go all out for a gold one.
tricky beast to rekit but easy after a few … but kits are likely just as expensive asa new one
a square pump is a square pump.

July 31, 2026 at 7:51 pm #325525393088, OEM repair kit, $20. Good luck, these little pumps are pretty tough to work on. Read the directions with the OEM kit first. There are several layers to these little pumps, mark everything with something to be sure you have all the layers properly stacked together and oriented correctly. There is one tiny little spring and cup that is a bugger to install.

July 31, 2026 at 11:27 pm #325532mark the side parts with a felt pen to facilitate layer reorientation on assembly.. or scribe with a dremel tool
Spings and small mushroom heads … I dab some crazy glue on base nipple and mushrooms to prevent it from tipping over on reassembly .
when done do a blow test in to out only…. no air should pass “out to in”
or buy a pump .. easier

August 15, 2026 at 10:44 am #326404Just my $0.02 here. The original pump lasted 50 years. The Amazon Chinesium units I have had experience with last about 50 minutes. I would rather try to rebuild using the kit Don referenced than by an Amazon pump. I chased my tail on a motor for 2 months once, and ultimately it was the pump. OEM product fixed the issue.
The rebuild process is tricky but doable!
