For a taper that short you should be able to use the compound and not worry about a taper attachment.
Don’t know if it would help, but British Standard Pipe (also the metric standard) compares with USS like this for “1/4” sizes:
TPI US:18, BSP: 19
Major diameter US: .540, BSP: .518 (Not sure the diameter was measured the same way.) The thread form is also different, BSP using a Whitworth-like form.
Other equivalent sizes have similar differences.
