I picked up two old outboard gas tanks at a flea market,
and was hoping some one could tell me what vintage
they are, what type / HP outboards they were intended for,
and what the hose connection on the outboard end was like. The Champion tank has a single outlet
http://www.grayhitandmiss.com/Outboards … g_tank.jpgThe Mercury tank has an "air in" and "fuel out" ports.
http://www.grayhitandmiss.com/Outboards … s_tank.jpgMy 1956 Mark 6 Mercury has the same single line connector on the outboard
as does my 1973 Mercury. Thanks for any info.

July 28, 2015 at 3:16 am #21054The Tanks you bought are for 1953′ Mark 15 & 1954′ Mark 20 "only". Two line hose required with special male fitting.
July 28, 2015 at 3:29 am #21057The Mercury pressure tank was used from 53 through 55 for the Mk-15 & Mk-20. The 20H also ran on a pressure tank, but it was 3 1/2 gallon. Mercury used up extra pressure tanks in 55 with the Mk-25 and other motors set up with a single line and a trigger type pump instead of a ball. We had one on our Mk-25 that used to give my dad fits. Eventually converted it to a ball for priming and it worked much better.

July 28, 2015 at 3:39 am #21060The other tank "Champion" is a 3 1/4 gal tank, fits 5 thru 16 1/2 hp motors 1953′ to 1958′ also " Majestic" outboards of same vintage. Hope this helps.
July 28, 2015 at 12:47 pm #21072I had a couple of those Merc pressure tanks and sold them way too cheap as I figured out when I found out what the fuel connectors are worth.
July 28, 2015 at 12:56 pm #21073The pressure tanks & fittings are valuable but the seal off fixture that covers the fuel entry port I have only seen in pictures.
July 28, 2015 at 1:42 pm #21077Wow…… great information. Thanks!
Only problem, I’ll have to look for a Mercury Mark 15
and a later, bigger Champion than I have, lol.
Anyone have photos of the Mercury hose "hook-up"
at the engine?Prepare to be boarded!

July 28, 2015 at 4:37 pm #21086Thanks Mumbles. I’ll keep my eyes open for those parts some day, and
maybe I’ll find that needle in the haystack too!Prepare to be boarded!
