Wards Recoil Pawls.

I see my recoil paws as attached by a thin wire.  Is there a specific procedure and material to use to be most successful on a repair of this part of my motor.?  I have 74MG9021 Model.  Serial #117340.  Not sure HP of this motor.  It also has a variable propellor hub that I have not seen on the internet so far.  Looking for any help on these issues.

In a past issue of the “Outboarder” there is a article about to make these springs. Hold  on, someone with a better memory will post the info.

The instructions at the top are from the Outboarder. The pictures are someone’s attempt to make some. I should have recorded who. A friend and I tried to make some. We weren’t too successful but we didn’t have the correct size guitar string. If the spring is too strong, the paw wont pull in, and you’ll here it clicking when the motor is running.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I find it easier, and more successful for me, to form
the piano wire “in place” on the rewind’s post.
It may not look as pretty, but they work good.

Thanks for the tips on the springs.   Anyone have any info on the variable propellor ?

I see some letters visible on your propeller;  can you tell us all of what is on there?  There are/were variable pitch propellers manufactured by Lesnor Maehr;  and others.

Lets see if we can ID yours.

From the photo of the prop, the blade appears to be solidly fixed to the hub.. nothing variable there? Can you send better pix of the blade to hub junction area
