A relative (of the in-law persuasion) came across a couple of old motors when doing cleanup work after the passing of his father. He knows I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous with these old things, however, enough sense to belong to and call upon the wealth of knowledge of my AOMCI experts.
I will send pictures as soon as I get face to face with these guys, but I do have the following (second hand) nameplate information as best as could be read with a flashlight in an old barn.
Elto – 44019-2214
Wards – 74(0r 1?)GG9006, with a S/N of 96322
Doubt that either will run, but neither are stuck. Is either worth anything as a parts motor? I was considering giving him a few bucks for the Elto to restore if parts are available reasonably (though from a quick internet search, doesn’t look like this motor has many parts!?)
Just looking for some input from others as to what you would do if these were yours.
Thanks,

920-764-0501March 4, 2018 at 10:31 pm #71989The Sea King is a three horse single built by Gail Products in 1947. Lots of power, probably needs a water pump rotor. The gearcase was a weak link. They used Oil lite bearings that seeped oil into the pump, causing the rubber Rotor the swell, oil lost was usually replaced by water –
The Elto has too many digits in the model number.
440 would be a 1933 three horse Sea King built by Evinrude. in 1933 –
4409 would be a two horse Evinrude Sportsman built in 1946
Pictures will tell the story . . . 😀

– – – 4091 it is – – – 😀March 6, 2018 at 1:05 pm #72054Question solved! My relative stands corrected…. It is indeed a 4091. I a wondering if he is dyslexic. He took a better picture of the nameplate. Thanks very much and apologies for the bad information.
Now, I still need to tell him what to do with it. Are parts available for this motor? (I might procure it from him if so) As soon as I get my hands on it I will check spark and compression.
Is the old Wards motor worth anything as a parts or project motor? Again, I will have these in my hands to check vitals soon.
Thanks for the time spent corralling this wild goose!
