Finally got the decals on the tank, and tank installed yesterday.
I have to finish up details on my homemade timer, mainly
trying to drill a couple of holes thru the horseshoe magnet
to mount it in place, and paint. The metal is incredibly “hard”.
Used an end mill in the drill press and was only able to penetrate the
surface about 1/32″. Will probably have to get the torch out,
get the magnet red hot and drill.
In the mean time, I built a battery box, but am yet undecided
on how to “exit” wires from the box going to the motor.
I want to have post going thru the box to hook up my wires
externally, to be able to remove them, and store them in the
box when not used. I didn’t really see anything ready-made
on the Internet, and yet “antiquey” looking, so guess I’ll just
make a couple of post to hook the wires up to out of brass
bolts and insulators of some kind.
Any better ideas, or photos of what you may have done?
Thanks!Prepare to be boarded!

Another great piece of work. Knew you’ve been working on this for some time and both the motor and the battery box look fantastic. Anxious to see a video when you get it going!!

November 25, 2018 at 4:05 pm #155606so why are you attempting to drill a hole in the (magneto) magnet? The old iron magnets are glass hard, not drilable with normal tools. If you heat the magnet it will no longer be a magnet.

November 25, 2018 at 6:35 pm #155619The magnet is just there for looks, so it looks more like a magneto
instead of a homemade timer. I believe it was off an F-12 Farmall
tractor, which I no longer have. The magnet is just sitting there
loose, so looking for a way to mount it. I built the timer out
of aluminum, so the magnet ain’t staying there by itself, lol. Thanks for the encouraging comments.
