Have a worn groove on the aluminum shaft of my 1939 Evinrude Elto Cub. It is where the transom mount attaches to the aluminum drive shaft tube. Should i repair the worn groove on the aluminum drive shaft tube by TIG welding or JB Weld? Have a local shop that is very good with welding(they weld repairs on classic cars).
After the repair i will need to sand or file smooth with the shaft.
I guess I’d wonder first of all “what’s” rubbing to cause the deep groove?
At this point the issue is only cosmetic, but it could be welded up,
filed down close, then use various grits of 1″ aluminum oxide sanding
roll paper.
