Hey Guys, Do any of you know what a fair to good compression reading should be for an Evinrude Zephyr 5hp ? Also do you know where we can get a decent replacement carburetor ? We pulled it apart to clean it and found several problems that someone had tried to repair and not done a very good job ! Throttle rotor was epoxied because the hex drive apparently broke !

      Thanks

      Gary

This one of mine with these readings, which are on the low side,
surprisingly ran and idles half decent.

Compression, cylinders dry, pulled over by hand, 3 pulls each cylinder

John, Thank you for your reply. when we pulled the carb apart to clean it some of the rubber parts ( primer plunger & cone shaped rubber cap ) were decomposed and falling apart ! I kind of doubt these parts are available, we’re hoping a replacement carburetor will have all good working parts ! So if you have a spare and are willing to part with it please let me know what the cost is and if you’d be willing to mail it to a 6640 Heisley Rd. Mentor Oh, 44060

Buccaneer, We checked the compression and saw 60psi on all four cylinders ! Not fantastic but at least they are all even !
