It’s great to see so many posts about ELTO Speedsters recently. To me they are one of the most important outboards of the era. As a result of all the Speedster talk I was inspired to tear down two 1928 Speedster 7 hp motors this week. I had previously rebuilt an ELTO coil and put it on the shelf so this was a quick project. This was also my first Speedster project. I got it running tonight. I can’t wait to try it out on the boat later this week.

Looks like a nice clean motor.

This is how I rebuilt the coil.

Beautiful result on the coil rebuild. Great looking motor too. Now that you have what looks like a brand new factory built coil, ever thought of a full resto on the motor?

I will likely give the tank some attention and stick a decal on it, but the rest is as far as I’m going with it. If I restore it I won’t want to use it.

Don’t blame you – a full resto on that motor would result in something way too nice to use again. Fixing the tank dents and a new decal will make it look great and still usable.

We had it out on the weekend. It ran great. My friend took some video and posted on Facebook. I hope the link works here.

Does the link not open? You shouldn’t need a Facebook account to view it.
