I’ts nice to see someone working on the early alternate firing motors. It seems like I never see those running at a meet. I heard a story once, that the Johnson brothers got the idea to build the alternate firing powerhead, after observing how smooth the V-45 motor ran with the compression release activated. Pretty interesting..
Those engines were really a ”milestone” motor for the outboard industry, when compared to the old opposed firing models.October 29, 2017 at 4:28 pm #66763Interesting side story Jerry!
I hope mines is one of those "good runners".
Got the crankcase and cylinder "blasted"
this morning. Back to the garage!Prepare to be boarded!
October 29, 2017 at 7:03 pm #66769alternate firing twin running at a one-man wet meet in Lake St. Clair. This was a good running one-pull motor that has since moved on to somebody elses collection.
I just got another A-70, this one needs help to run, low compression and probably needs centre main work too. To be honest – The rewind starter was the main attraction

October 29, 2017 at 8:29 pm #66773That’s pretty cool, missed out on a ree-coil K a few years ago. I think they only made that for a few short years, Maybe on the 65 and 70 models?

looked like yours. I found the timing marks you
mention. Thanks for mentioning them. With the
plug holes 90 degrees to the cylinder, I couldn’t
use my TDC gauge and buzz box method anyway.
Cylinder painted up a while ago, and made
the gasket for it. The original was only .010
thick. Best I could come up with was some
heavy kraft / masking paper at .008 thick.
My thinnest gasket material is .015.
Will coat it with some grease and hope for the
best. 😉Prepare to be boarded!

and a 1941-42 KS-15, waiting to be worked
on. I’ll probably be asking for advise when
the time comes!
Yours are "Sweet". Will have to search YouTube and
see what the "sound like".Prepare to be boarded!
