I drug home a well used Elgin today.
      Twin cylinder with neutral shift.
Turns over with compression and even
has a little 20 year old gas in the tank. 😯
It’s Model 751.2750, and I double checked twice
      to confirm that number.
I thought it was going to be easy to ID the year and HP
using Frank’s tip of using the last three digits of the model number,
and this web site, but I don’t find it listed.
      http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_elgin_1.html

I have a 1953 Elgin 5 hp, model 571.58562 with the neutral shift
that’s froze up, but has a good skeg and the rear carry handle.
Hoping to make one good one from the two.

This one had a crappy repaint at one time.
Not sure what’s up with the decals on the tank.
On both sides "Elgin" is superimposed over "Elgin".

      Help!
      Thanks.

Last 3 numbers of model # are 751. (2750 is serial #). Looking at the list for a model ending with 751, I arrive at 571.58751. A 1951 7.5hp. Are we confused yet?

          Wow, confused for sure, lol.

With the 571. model prefix and the model 751 I thought
I must have transposed some numbers.
I found the information you quote on Discount Marine, as…..
          Model Serial
          571.58751 751000

Therefore, my complete serial number must be 7512750?
          Confusing system for sure.
          Thanks Frank!
