Now that I’ve got the ’51 Sea King finished, I’m back on the ’54 Majestic 15hp. I got the gearcase apart, but to get the propshaft out you have to remove the brass lock ring pictured here. Looks like it takes a special tool. Any ideas?

The gears all came out the front end and unfortunately, all three are chipped/broken. So I’m on the hunt for gears for this fairly rare motor. Anyone know if other Champion gears may work?

Model number of your Majestic is ???
The tool is semi-special. Spanner wrench similar to what Mercury uses, but possibly different spacing. Easy enough to make.

Model #M-6LL-GS – yeah I had a spanner for a Mercury but I sold it some years back. Guess I could try making one. Looks like it may be a backward thread also (Righty-Loosey?)

I don’t have a parts book for that one, so can’t compare gears with other Champions.

Special home made "one size fits all" spanner wrench . . .

Good idea – I did make up something similar but not adjustable. I may sacrifice an adjustable wrench and make one like yours.

I did manange to get that lock ring off with a homemade spanner, but I like Gary’s idea, since it’s adjustable. The ring was a left-handed thread. Well, here’s the Majestic numbers for the gears:
                  3LGS20 – Drive Gear
                  IJ14 – Pinion Gear
                  6MM111 – Reverse Gear

I now see all the seals that need replacing, so I’m posting an ad on the classifieds.

I found this gearcase on Ebay:
                      https://www.ebay.com/itm/Champion-Super … 1438.l2649
It looks identical to my gearcase. Can anyone confirm that it will fit the Majestic?

Yes it is, yes it Will (fit)— Majestic and Champion— better buy it, before someone else does, a *somewhat* rare gearcase ! 😮
