And another thanks to Steve and Gary… I’m working on a 1956 12 HP Buccaneer (Gale). As near as I can tell from the outside this is the same motor as the 15 hp Fastwin or Johnson FD. Is it really??? Why the de-rateing to 12 HP? just a marketing thing for the off brand motor?

PS, GLC Lockeman’s meet this Saturday in Detroit, if the tank is available I’ll be firing the Buccaneer up ( I hope)

12hp Buccaneer is similar but not same as its Johnson and Evinrude cousins. 12hp is 2-1/4" bore, 15hp is 2-3/8" bore, 18-20hp is 2-1/2" bore.
In addition, the 12hp has silver plated aluminum connecting rods, J/E has roller bearings.

Thanks Frank, Bearings are a BIG difference. More oil will be better I’m sure, like 16 to 1 ( 1/2 pt / gal). I’m a firm believer in …"oil is cheaper that parts"
