Im going to buy a mk 25 and I think it’s 1955. Do the lowers break often?

Never had one break, but if you are going to make it a runner for yourself take it apart and replace 3 seals. 2 on the driveshaft & 1 on the propshaft. Check the roller bearings for smooth or quiet turning. If water has rusted any of the bearings replace them.(not that expensive at a bearing supplier) Now its good for another 50 years. Replace impeller and check driveshaft for wear in the area where the upper seal rides. Cross your fingers and hope for a nice one.

I see they have different hp rating. Is there actually a difference in hp?

Some refer to it as "Madison Ave Horsepower"! ie, BS. Just saying. 🙂
