Ordered gaskets 203257 and received two pressed composition exhaust plate gaskets. Installed them dry either side of the inner plate, no sealer. In operation water leaked from the cover at higher motor speeds. The 10-32 screws around the cover plate barely deformed the gaskets. Ordered two gaskets again and received one pressed composition gasket. The other (second) gasket came in a plastic bag labelled 364-203257-1. This second gasket is 0.032 inches thick and the gasket surfaces have a fine diamond pressed pattern. I have a Viking parts list but it is for Gale Model 12D13 whereas my motor is a Gale 12D14. Maybe the parts list for 12D14 would identify the 364-203257-1 gasket(?)
      Anyway, does anyone know:

If the 364-203257-1 gasket goes next to the block or next to the outer cover?

Should I put the new gaskets in with 3M #847 sealant?

Anyone have experience with this? Thank you.

I’d use the sealant on them. Not likely to ever remove the cover again, so goop them up!

Can’t help you on the variation – might be from a different supplier?

I always seal exhaust cover gaskets. Always but sealer on bolts as well. The guy down the road will thank you.
