      Even with today’s improved oils I would still run it at 24:1. Oil is cheaper than parts and synthetic or semi synthetic run cleaner than the old oil and smoke less anyway…Charlie

        Wonder if the bucking could be fuel starvation?

        Meaning when the motor is run at high speed it drains the float bowl.

        Are you sure the filter screen in the tank is clean?

          Yes, definitely run the engine at 24:1

            You’re going back to a 35:1 ratio.
            Why would you intentionally run this classic engine on anything less than the recommended ratio?
            When on 24:1 and properly tuned there is very little smoke so it couldn’t be that…..
