      Sounds like this engine will be worth the effort also, resealing the gearcase is usually part of normal service expectations in order to make the old OMCs reliable daily runners…

        Turns out the LU does’t leak after all. I got the drain screw out this morning,
        and put new gear lube in. No leaks after all day. Looks like unburned oil
        and goo was draining out the exhaust.
        I only ran it a few minutes, and really didn’t get it warmed up.
        Also, tried to lean out the low speed while it was running.
        Thought the needle was seated shut and it wasn’t leaning out.
        forgot this one has "stops" on both needles. Some days I amaze myself. 😕
        Pulled the carb off today for kicks, cleaned it up, etc.
        Wanted to pull the flywheel and check the mag out,
        but my puller is on the RD, awaiting satisfaction!

        Prepare to be boarded!
