There’s a aluminum threaded sleeve in the low speed needle chamber that spins freely when threading the low speed needle and does not permit the needle to reach it’s point to start the 1 1/2 turn back up settings, i tried tightening the packing nut as to put pressure on the aluminum sleeve and allow the needle to screw in it seem to work but when i go to back it out i can feel the sleeve spin, it seems like it’s not letting the packing seal correctly, Is this aluminum sleeve supposed to be loose? Motor was running great just last week so i took a look at the carb and the low speed needle was really loose. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, the threaded sleeve is free to spin in there. The packing and nut is all that prevents it from spinning. So, tighten it up a bit and that should hold it. Hopefully, the threads in the sleeve and on the needle are not buggered up and it turns freely.

Yup, you need that little aluminum bushing to be loose on the threads and to be a loose fit into the carb body. Quite often they are corroded into the bore making them a little bit tricky to remove. The bevel on the bushing must face out, towards the new packing washers. If the threads feel tight or have any resistance, they will need chasing and are usually 1/4 X 40 pitch.

When installing them, I like to thread it part way up the needle and then snug up the packing gland until I can feel the needle starting to tighten up. Then the needle can be turned in gently until it bottoms out before backing it out several turns before tightening the packing gland some more. Keeping the needle backed out while tightening the gland will prevent it from bottoming out and damaging the needle tip and its seat. Once the needle feels snug enough, it can be bottomed out again before setting the initial adjustment.

Conversely, when those bushings are frozen in place, what’s the best way to get them out? I’ve killed a few carbs while trying….

              Why remove it?

Got it guys!! i’ll give it try, because the motor was running great last week so i was finally going to take it to lake for the first time and so i thought i’d make sure it was was going run and when i put in the bucket i notice it was running rough and that’s when i notice the low speed needle had become loose
