During my 1st startup after rebuild, water was shooting out of both sides of the lower unit. The motor originally had cooling issues with a boiling hot lower unit that was solved by clearing a cooling port under the head. Head temp is fine, and there is plenty of water coming out rear exhaust. New gasket as well under head.
Question is….is this normal for water to be shooting out (which I imagine is from the now clear cooling port) , and would it keep the lower unit cooler if they were plugged?
      Thanks,
      Bob D

        See this diagram:

You are missing part number 6 (305304) which sits on top of the water pump housing and connects to the exhaust housing. I had the same problem on my QD23. Without that part, water shoots up the drive shaft "canal" and out those holes. You’ll have to find a used one as they are unavailable. You’ll also need the two O-rings which fit on the top and bottom of the spacer.

Lindy, thanks so much. I never would have figured that one out.
I thought the water was coming from the top by the powerhead!

The water is coming out of the driveshaft tube in the exhaust housing….And, I’m thinking Lindy is right, you are missing the water pump seal pipe and orings that sit on top of the impeller housing and fit up into the exhaust housing….
