      Hello everyone

Today I was given the opportunity to acquire a 1964 Mercury 850. The current owner told me it was used once in 1964 then put away for the next 50+ years. I believe him. It looks like it came right out of the showroom. Not a mark or scratch on it. Chrome trim looks like a mirror. I’m an OMC guy and have never really tinkered with Mercs. I’ve heard they are a bit more challenging to work on than OMC’s. Johnson and Evinrude parts are readily available. I heard that some Mercs, depending on the year, are really hard to get parts for. Can anyone verify that? I’m really don’t want to get the motor if getting parts will be an issue.

      Thanks
      Greg

You can get a lot of parts at the site below – you may want to take a look and see just what all they have for your 850:

For older Mercs, I recommend earplugs!

And of course there are the Sierra aftermarket parts at places like http://www.iboats.com.

Hope your experience coming over to the "Dark Side" is a good one! I’m mainly and OMC guy too, but have a few Mercurys.

I know a gentleman who has a pair of them for sale. Bought new as a pair. Two digits apart on serial #s. Long shaft though.
