So I was changing the gearcase lube and of course took both screws, the bottom to let it drain and the top for the vent. When I was screwing the top screw (vent screw hole, The vent screw (hole)threads where the screw would normally screw in on the lower unit ended up getting stripped out. I’m not sure if there is a good fix for this or what I could do? I rather not invest in a new lower unit lol 😀

Drill and tap for a Helicoil of the right size for your vent screw, or drill and tap the next size up (which will not look factory).

Full disclosure: I have not done either on a lower unit, but have done both on other castings.

If you do either of those, be most careful to clean out all metal chips and shavings. They could do damage if left in the lower unit.

I’ve done the latter, used a greased tap to retain metal shavings.
