Hello, I have a 1967 Merc 60 6hp and I was wondering what gear lube I should put in the gearcase? Is there a difference Between gearcase grease or actual oil. I’m not sure the correct kind to put in my Merc. Right now I have some fresh super tech marine SAE 80W-90 loser unit gear lube and wondering if maybe that’s will work? Thanks!

I think that would be fine. Check it after running a few times to see if it’s milky. If so, you are getting a little water in from somewhere.

If you get water in it use John Deer Cornhead grease. those motors had Driveshaft that would pit. if you decide to reseal use a speedi sleeve to repair the Driveshaft.

80/90 gear oil is what Merc recommended.
