Hi guys, I just got a 1953 Fleetwin. My gas cap does not seal tight, it’s very loose and floppy when screws on. It has one rubber ring on the shaft but no other seal. Should there be a washer on it also? And my door is broken, that doesnt help hold the cap down does it? Thanks.

As far as I know, there is no washer on them. The "O" ring is probably hard and not making a good seal with the tank. As for the door, it should not hold the cap on, the cap turns on with ramps on the top of the cap that seat it into place. The 1950 Fleetwin had a separate vent, so the cap did not have the vent in it. These doors were often broken when people put a vented cap on that needed the relief in the door. I don’t think I have an extra door, or I would offer it to you. Both my 50 & 53 had broken doors when I found them.

The 0202581 seal ($5.00) may be replaced by a quad "O" ring if it doesn’t seal. Masters and Carr has a wide selection. That door is just decoration. . . 😎

Thanks for the help guys. This is my first Fleetwin, I will probably be back with more questions. As always, Garry, the schematics are very helpful.
