I’m trying to get low idle ( for shifting) from this control. First pic shows idle lever down in run position. Second pic shows idle lever up in shift position. Distribriter will turn down idle if I push it down by hand but not by the lever. Thank you for any help, Slim.

In the top (first) picture where the "Warm-Up" lever is down, it is incorrectly installed. Turn the control box half over, remove the slotted machine screw that retains the lever, remove the lever, then "clock it" instead to 12 o’clock (instead of 9 o’clock as removed)(or position 90 degrees clockwise to say the same thing another way) and reinstall the machine screw.

        Joe

Thanks for the tip MS. I finally found it on page 470 of the Keikhaefer – Merc manual. It suggests removing two teeth of the plastic throttle gear on some models. 15 to 13. Mine has 17. It looks like the low idle lever will have more room to adjust. If I can find the old gears it might answer my question, but that was last year when I replaced the cables. Does this make sense?

The service manual suggested reduction of gear teeth is instead for the aluminum "throttle sector gear" which engages the remote control cable’s nylon rack gear (unlike vintage OMC remote controls where the nylon gear is part of the remote control, Mercury included the nylon gear with their control cables). This was a production change, and then only required when (if) utilizing the earlier remote control cables utilized with KAMINC/Quicksilver 2-lever controls (these have a 13 tooth nylon gear), in these single lever Quicksilver controls. As you have the correct control cables intended for your control (with 17 tooth nylon gears), the change/reduction of gear teeth for the throttle sector gear is not needed. You already have enough travel for the "throttle shaft & link" except that you (or who installed it there) have the "warm-up" lever incorrectly indexed" (it can theoretically install in four positions), being 90 degrees off, and therefore limiting it’s full travel. It wanted, e-mail me at info@fergusonpoolemarine.com and we can exchange pictures, and/or speak by phone.

Thanks Joe, I look forward to talking to you again in about a week. The family needs to get up to the north woods for some R&R. Slim
