I have a pair of 50’s era Mercury remote throttle/shift cables that I would like to shorten. The core is made of wrapped steel wire, sheathed with a plastic spiral wrapper. I think that they are crimped into place at the terminals. Has anybody successfully shortened these cables? I’m willing to machine new sleeves, thought maybe I could epoxy the new terminals on?

NO – They unravel continuously. Most just buy a shorter cable. . . 😎

Any idea how they do it in the factory?
