This isn’t a restoration. It’s an abomination. This motor wouldn’t upset me so much if the seller was being honest about what he has. It does a disservice to the club and our mission to mislead the public. However, it would look pretty on the wall. I can see the value of this motor as a piece of art.
Cottage Racer is just a term for any motor used by someone on a homemade hydro or obsolete race boat or even just a small boat used by summer cottage dwellers to informally race each other. It was never used by any company that I know of as a name.
The seller may not know any better, as it may have been presented to him that it was correct at the time of purchase.
Not my type of restoration technique, but opinions will certainly vary.
