Oddly enough, I tried some large wine corks on my tanks too……and they sank immediately.

      Now I use these: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_mode … pound.html

I used new cork stoppers from
        https://www.onlinesciencemall.com/
They are not wine corks, they are made for sealing chemical flasks.
I bought them oversize and sanded them down to the desired shape. I have no experience with wine bottle corks.

The site sells 3 grades of cork and I bought the best grade.

Again 3 months and no deterioration.

as to fungus growing in petroleum liquids… just let a paintbrush lay around for a few months in varsol or paint thinner and you will likely see a gooey white beige color fungus growing on your paintbrush 😮

Im going to try Eastwood Fuel Tank Sealer. I was told it works good for sealing floats. Im trying to find cork material to make 2 more floats. Any suggestions?

How much weight does red coat add to the float? Something to consider. Did a tall tank & vatted 3 times & coated with nickel plating. Never rust again
