Any suggested resources for a flywheel puller for an 1965 Evinrude 40HP Big Twin? I am doing the points and condenser. I have not done this before is it an easy job? Any adjustments or just unbolt and bolt the new ones inplace.
That’s one of the toughest flywheels to get off. You will need a decent puller, with Grade-8 bolts. The minimum would be a harmonic balancer puller that you can get from an auto parts store. Some of them have a loaner. You also need a torque wrench to put it back on and tighten the nut to 100-105 foot pounds. Do not under any circumstances use a puller that grabs the outside rim of the flywheel.
Make sure you thread the bolts in evenly, and 7/16" deep. Too shallow, and you will pull the old threads out. Ensure tapers are clean (acetone) and dry when re installing flywheel.
