I am looking for coils for 5hp gale seaking mod #94GG9014A SER # 334708 And no luck, wondering if anyone has found a coil in the aftermarket that will work in its place.Sorry dont know how to load picture , but lamitations look like horseshoes and turn in to alum mag wheel. flywheel is just a cover.
July 24, 2018 at 4:30 pm #80029Are your coils like these? If so, there should be plenty used
ones "out there". Put an ad in the classifieds. Usually, these
old ones are still good.Should be some on EBay as well. Here’s some, but say’s "no spark".
Mostly likely he didn’t know how to test them correctly.

July 24, 2018 at 5:07 pm #80032Yeah, those breaker points in the ad look like a horse pooped on them. Probably why it has no spark. How about yours?

However, what’s with that sheet metal screw? If it is shorted to ground, that is a problem.
July 24, 2018 at 8:46 pm #80041Have already disassembled points and cleaned, both coils are open on secondary side

It would be surprising if that sheet metal screw, holding the points together, is not a problem. In order to force that screw in there, the tiny insulator bushings, shown as part no. 42 in Buccaneer’s diagram, must be destroyed or missing. They are very small, delicate, and very easily lost. Time to look for another points assembly. Used points assemblies are fairly easy to come by, and new old stock ones are still around.
As others have mentioned, those coils, most of the time, are still good. Have you tested them with a multimeter of ohmmeter? Like the points, used coils are also fairly common. NOS coils are very expensive if you can even find them.
Here is a very helpfull website: http://pochefamily.org/outboard/Coils.htm
July 24, 2018 at 9:37 pm #80044He sez both coils are open on the secondary side. Unusual, but not impossible.
