Elgin Outboard year info

Recently acquired Elgin but I cannot find what year it is. model 561 11993. any info would be appreciated, thanks

Look again for a number starting with 571.xxxxx or 574.xxxxx. Most likely 571.xxxxx
Otherwise, post a picture.

still says 561. I’ll include a pic when I can. it also says sears on the tag.

Pretty safe bet that you have a model 571.58561 1951-52, 5hp

Go to http://www.yankeeaomci.org/feature_outboard-2.htm and scroll down to the paragraph tilted "Model Identification" to see how I arrived at that conclusion.

Looking at this tag, I can see how it could be read wrong, especially if scratched or dirty. I agree with the above posts.

Okay, got the motor upright and in better light and can see all that info nòw. Thanks

As the tag says, it’s Model no. 571.58561
which translates to a 1951 5 hp.
Note that the end of the model number is "561",
which is the start of the Serial number.
Confusing.
