The example posted earlier from 1914 was made of bronze or brass. Anyone know more about this cast iron one? Was it originally plated or just painted? Thanks, Jim

Anyone seen one of these and might know what year it was used and if they were painted or plated?

Looking at yours I would say painted. I have one of the brass ones. Interesting that the design and lettering is totally different. Now the question is which is older, my guess is the brass one. The brass one has a raised center part. My guess is that the deck was two pieces with a strip of wood covering the seam in the middle to cover it and to keep water out. Also required less work than getting a perfect match at the seam

I agree. The cast iron one may not have been originally plated but just painted. Also your brass one is probably older although the other one seems more crude. I know a guy that I will see in a couple of weeks that might be able to tell me more. Thanks for your reply.

I think that if it was plated that you would see it on the underside.

Interesting about the Evinrude breast plate, but are
there any good photos of the "whole boat?"

Not the best picture but only one I have been able to find online.

From what little one can see of the boat, guessing that
                    they were well made. Thanks.
