Currently working on a couple 1950s Johnson motors. One had a magneto plate that was binding/stiff due to hard, dried out grease on the mounting ring. Any specific recommendations out there for a lightweight grease for the mounting rings that will stay put and not sling out and foul the ignition points?

OMC Triple Guard is a good quality grease that works well for this and has many uses. As Chris said "just a thin smear", or excess will foul the points. Coat all metal to metal contact areas.
